This past week, USDA's laboratory in Beltsville, MD, confirmed the first presence of plum pox virus in New York. The state's Department of Agriculture and Markets detected positive results on plum tree leaf samples from an orchard in Niagara County, 5 miles from plum pox eradication zones in Canada. Survey specialists are currently surveying a 5-mile radius of the area, and will likely establish an eradication program that could include quarantines and removal of infested orchards.
