Donna,

The European chestnut, Castanea sativa, causes major allergy problems in the Mediterranean and other areas where it is prevalent.

Many trees in Fagaceae have pollen that cross reacts, ie., if you’re allergic to pollen of one you’ll be sensitive to pollens from another.  Does this help?
