| I've also had good business with ForestFarm - good enough that I ordered a tree, but they are sold out. I will try Oikos, despite their confusing interface. I'm concerned that the spot I am looking at is a little too dry for a yellow birch, but I don't expect to have problems with air quality. The forests of NH have lots of yellow birch (that's where I grew to love them) and I doubt our air is much worse. In both places the bulk of the air pollution is smog from midwest coal plants. I once considered purchasing an older house along a major road (not a highway). I tested the soil for lead in several places. As expected, there was a lot of lead right next to the house, where years of paint dust had accumulated. Also, there was elevated lead in the soil near the road. There was a fairly sharp gradient as you moved away from the road, however, and the side yard (along a minor road, but protected by the house from the major road) was quite clean. I was shocked at how much difference 100 feet made. Ginda On Jun 8, 2006, at 11:55 AM, John Barbowski wrote:
