I've got a small pear tree (only about 4' tall) that's starting it's 3rd
summer. It was transplanted last fall and this spring looked like it was
dead. I was going to dig it up and toss it when I noticed some leaves
near the base just above the graft. The top 2/3 of the tree appears to
be dead wood. There's one bud leafing out about a foot above the graft
and the others are a few inches above the graft. Should I cut off the
dead wood just above the top leaf and see if it will take off, or does
it sound like the tree is too far gone.
