Hanafuyu set fruit here in Columbus, GA 6 weeks ago. They are size of a quarter
now. Hanafuyu will set male blooms at times, look very closely to see if the bloom
has a small fruit or if the blooms are in a small group of three(male). This year I
did not see male blooms but might have missed. I only hope there were no male blooms,
Hanafuyu will set a heavy load without pollination, the fruit will be better because
it will be seedless, the fruit won't soften as easily. I apply Epsom salts each year
to stop the fruit drop and will apply nitrous fertilizer just before next rain and hope
much of the fruit will drop. It is a juggling act between Epsom salts which is
Magnesium sulate, which helps the fruit hang on the tree and Nitrogen which
causes fruit drop in persimmons. We hope for a "June drop", if not all the limbs
will be on the ground.
