I'd be
cautious about taking anything from the National Arbor Day Foundation at face
value. Reason is, on their ads soliciting memberships they offer a
thank-you gift of 10 different species of trees. Included among these are
flowering dogwood, willow oak and golden raintree, off of which are
definitely not cold hardy here in Minneapolis-St. Paul. When I suggested
that they instead consider offering at least a warm-, moderate- and cold-climate
combination, depending on the location of the donor, I was told
the combination they sent to all donors was just fine, thank you very
much. -- Sam Brungardt, St. Paul, Minn. (USDA Hardiness Zone

[NAFEX] New Hardiness Zone Maps released
I
don't recall seeing this on the list, but the Arbor Day folks released an update
to the Hardiness Zone maps for 2004. Very interesting. I've been
zone 5 since I can remember, now it looks like I am zone
6...
