You don't say where your orchard is.
It is a bit early to prune (in June) - you'll often gets 'crows feet' where
the
three buds below the cut all grow and you'll actually create more shade.
In south coastal B.C. (and England), it is better to prune apples around the
third
week in July. Pears can be done in early July.

I used the bagging process to prune off excessive vegetation from all
: three trees. I don't know if this is a desireable thing! Some of the
: sprouts had already grown more than a foot. It was done last year with
: no obvious detrimental effects. I wanted to ensure light permeation
: and ventilation.
