I imagine it depends where you live, Doreen.
Here, fall planting is easy because the soils are still warm from the
summer, and rains begin about October and continue through the
winter. Plants can grow new roots and become well-established before
they need to put out new leaves and flowers in the spring.
If we plant in the spring, the soils are still cold from the winter,
and then comes the rainless summer. It is harder to get plants
established.
