Unless the geneticaly modified test trees are being grown in a bubble,
their GM pollen is being shared in the wild.
Once you put GM anything into an open test field, it has been released to
the wild.
Not complaining, just making point. Last I heard, court cases have been
won regarding wild GM pollen getting into standard crops, and the standard
crop farmer having to pay GM royaltys to GM patent holders. Not a simple
issue.
