When I put my container plants outside I bury the pots in the ground.
After a few weeks, adventitious roots find their way out of the bottom holes
in the pot - these get pruned off when I dig them up again. Initially, the
plants need regular watering but, later, if I miss a day or two, they
usually don't wilt.
