In Portugal and Galicia, Spain, grapes are grown in
20 foot tall wires and sticks. The climate is very humid and thus the vine
is thereby less susceptible to fungal diseases. I'd give it a try, but I'm
afraid that most grapes would die back to the soil surface every few
years. Something to consider.
Another disadvantage of allowing grapes to climb
tree might be that the fruit would be too high to pick. Lon would know if
grape quality might suffer from the tall vines bearing excess fruit.
