My personal favorite, after having tried wax and asphalt grafting emulsions, is Doc Farwell's latex grafting compound. Far and away better. Doesn't crack, stretches as the graft grows, and the yellow color marks the graft union for three years or more.

Does anyone have any comments on the relative merits of grafting wax versus grafting emulsion? I will be doing several hundred cider apples this year and would like to keep the success rate as high as possible. I have used wax in the past, but only on a small scale.
