Bob,
I think I'm 7a or 7b. It's not very clear to me because the USDA says Zone 7a has
average minimum temps of -15 to -18°C and Zone 7b has average minimum temps of -12
to -15°C and we certainly don't have those as average minimum temps. We can go
down to -15°C and maybe even to
-20°C, but our average minimum temps are much higher, maybe 0°C.
USDA says Vancouver is 6b and that's where the Fuyu persimmon tree is (in a
sheltered area).
If I could find out what zone Bellingham WA or Seattle WA was in, I'd be the same
or similar.
I've just tasted Fuyu and I thought it tasted great. Does D virginiana taste as
good? Fuyu looks like a mini-pumpkin, does D virginiana look more like a tomato?
We had a drought this summer with record high temps. Maybe this is persimmon
weather?
