Another plus of the 4' woven - field fencing I am using is that it gives me
1,000 feet of support for plants like ribes, (crandall esp. that could use
support - I am just weaving them in the woven wire).. I have laid down uv
resistant permeable mulch in the fence row so it's prime for planting
something. I even have one 300' side planted to grapes. I am sure deer will
consider chewing them, but having a sturdy fence already up makes it worth
the trouble. I have planted them on the inside of the fence, and next year
plan to invent some kind of 90 degree hanger for trellis wires, say a foot
or two inside out of deer's reach. How do grape vines compare to apple trees
for deer taste buds ?
The August 22 frost finished the squash, browned the corn (recovering) and
toasted outer layer of grapes , will be interesting to see how they ripen
(or rot) Del
<;The high tension wire has proven useful for trellises or containment
<;fences for grapes, raspberries, and blackberries, so it hasn't been
<;a total loss.
