Tom,

Sorry to respond so late - lot of interesting responses from others.
But why did no one mention the pear? Always available in the store, always
has a few viable seeds, easy to germinate (1-2 weeks in fridge in damp peat
moss), the seedlings are tough, the young plants have nice shiny dark
green leaves, even indoors in a south window. Like any other woody
perennial fruit, it will be several years until fruit is produced.
