It had never made much sense to me why there is such a concern about suckering since you can prune the suckers off in weather that is not friendly to fireblight UNTIL I realized that commercial growers have a "bottom line" to consider and that for hundreds of trees that much extra work would be very significant to the profit margin. However, as a homegrower with just a few trees, isn't it just a little more pruning?
