Good evening, Mark. Southmeadow Fruit Gardens carried (carries?) it. I
grafted 21 cvs. of Asian pear
(scionwood mostly from the Clonal Germplasm collection at Corvallis) onto
Pyrus ussuriensis understock.
19 were killed the first winter (rootstock survived). The remaining 2
(plus a 'Yakumo' that I purchased) have been pretty reliable since. A few
years ago, we had an overnight low in the mid-minus-30's F. (yup, ca. -36
F.) that killed them back to the snow line (luckily, well over 3 feet on
the ground). 'Taihe' came roaring back the next year and grew over 7 feet
in one season! If you would like to graft it, let me know and we'll
arrange some scionwood. Cheers, Brian Pearson
