I found a fruit in Peru, sold in the local markets and which I observed
growing in a local orchard there. The tree appeared to be a crab apple
from a cursory examination but the fruit had a mealy sweetish taste and
the natives pulled the skin off before eating. Ripened fruit was about
the size of golf ball, with a yellow color. The flower end was not
rough lke a Medlar but was smooth like an apple.
The locals called it "Nispero"
Any ideas?
