I did have one fellow who has done some breeding with MN447 tell me
that its flavor
is akin to cheap whiskey or tobacco juice!!!
And the "whiskey" flavor is evident in Sweet 16 and when picked at the
proper time
it also is in Keepsake. However both possess enough sugars to make this
flavor more
vanilla-like.
However both are difficult to grow in warmer districts.

I've been seeing recent references to this apple(MN 447) over on the
Gardenweb Forums, referenced as one of the parents of Keepsake and Sweet
16, with glowing references to its flavor.
Anybody on the list fruiting it in their orchard, or can anyone comment on
it?
