I am a big fan of crabapples, they are normally sweeter than large apples
(same thing with kiwis, smaller but sweeter). At risk of losing my
credibility as an apple taster, I have to say that the best apple I've ever
had is not an Ashmead's, nor a Cox Orange or anything fancy but rather, now
brace yourselves: a Whitney Crab. For about 5 days they are the best
tasting, rich, sweet, tangy yellow fleshed morsels I've had in the apple
genus. Wickson Crab is said to have more sugar than any other apple, but as
crabs go I'll bet is just a little above average. I will have to get my
hydrometer out next year and test the Whitneys. I'll bet they're up there
near 18- 20 percent (yes I know your average hydrometer is calibrated for
grapes, yet still I persist don't I?)
Dell, I seem to have misplaced your email address, you wanted me to let you
know when my website would be up. Well, its up:
