At the urging of Russian friends I planted sea
buckthorn a few years ago, first crop of berries this year. After picking
a few amid the thorns, I cut branches and froze them, and the berries shucked
off easier, but still slow. Used a Foley's mill to extract juice, diluted
and sweetened per recipe in "One Green World" catalog (1 cup juice, 2 cups
water, 1/2 cup sugar or honey). Juice is pretty and tasty (I diluted
further after tasting). Anyone have other uses for the berries? An
Armenian friend says he made excellent wine in the old country, but lost the
recipe.
