Do you know how to get rid of/reduce the number of cattail plants. Thy are
already there. Also, I plan on cutting down the tops this fall. Should they
be used as a fall mulch on the garden? I will use a rake to clear out most
of the vine type plants.

The filamentous type vegetation can be controlled, to some degree, by
fertilization or use of one of the sunshade(AquaShade, etc.) products that
diminish penetration of sunlight.
Cattails are best controlled by making certain that pond edges drop off
rapidly to a depth of at least 18-24 inches. Shallow, sloping pond banks
are the ideal spot for cattails.
