That's scary stuff, and the only cure is probably some kind of bug or
disease that destroys pears, which would have obvious drawbacks! And should
wild pears get that common, it will probably happen on it's own. Around
Mcminnville there are fields of pear rootstocks that have been abandoned.
The problem with callaryana seedlings is that the thorns on them make them
very unpleasant to deal with. I don't know if they will be the plague that
honey locusts are, but it would sure not be a good idea to have them coming
up everywhere. Donna
