I put some Tristar strawberries into a pot this spring. For 6 weeks, I
dutifully clipped all the blossoms. Now it's been 6 weeks, and I am
tempted to let the blossoms develop, but the plants aren't much bigger
than the day I planted them. One, in particular, barely has leaves at
all. (The others had some leaves when I planted them.)
In contrast, the earliglows I planted in the garden had no leaves at all
when I got them, and now look like nice little plants. (They also hold
their blossoms conveniently away from their crowns, for easy trimming.)
Do you think I should keep clipping flowers for another couple of
weeks? Can I let them set a little fruit?
The weather was warm when I put them in, and promptly turned cold and
wet. It's been unseasonably cold until today, when it warmed up. Who
knows what tomorrow will bring.
