The rootstock will make little difference. The genetics of the scion variety
is one major influence on this
characteristic, but removing much of the crop in an "on" year can overcome
the genetic tendencies.
However, if you remove all the crop in an "on" year it will just shift the
timing of the bearing, so you should
leave some crop on the tree. If you are diligent, this will work. It is
successfully done on pecan and apples
by commercial growers.
