Has there been a change of management or something at Southmeadow Fruit
Gardens during the last
decade? Are people generally happy with ordering from them lately or did I
have a freak experience?
I placed an order with them almost one calendar year ago. My check was
cashed. As the shipping season
this Spring waned, I got anxious and started calling and emailing. Often I
got no response. When I did get a
response, it was an assurance that my order was on its way. I dug the holes
based on this assurance.
Nothing happened. I emailed again- no response. I phoned again and was
matter-of-factly told that the
shipping season was over. Not even a hint of an apology or acknowledgement
that anything was amiss.
Many people would have been irate at this point, but I just confirmed (by
voice) that my order would be filled
this coming shipping season. Then to be sure, I wrote them a note asking
them to send a written
confirmation (I even included a SASE). I have received no response.
I used to order from them every year before I was forcibly urbanized for more
than a decade. Can they still be
relied on or have others had similar misfortunes recently with this
once-great resource for fruit gardeners? If
they are out, then it becomes much more difficult to find certain cultivars.
