And another common perception about fruit gardening is that it is ugly. Many
homeowner's associations do
not allow fruit trees to be planted, others limit it to the backyard. For
those of us living in urban areas we
should strive to demonstrate that fruiting plants can be extraordinarily
beautiful to the general public while
providing the tasty treats that are the primary interest to folks like
myself. Flowering (non-fruiting) crabs,
peaches, plums and 'Bradford' pears abound in the landscape, but things with
"messy" fruit are planta non
grata.
