Hi Victoria,
I read your very interesting explanation about
irish peach and I wondered whether you know about Lodi. I read recently that it
comes from New York, 1942, of Transparent X Montgomery parentage (not that I
know anything about Montgomery either :~) and that it ripes later than Y.
Transparent. I had planted one many years ago, where I used to live but moved
away before the tree grew to produce fruits.
Last Spring, I managed to get a few branches before
the tree was ripped off by a bulldozer. I was lucky to find out about the plan
and get there in time to see what I could salvage. When I cut some branches of
the Lodi, I noticed that someone else had been there to cut grafting
material, so someone obviously though it was worth saving although that person
cannot know the identity of the tree as I do.
I never tasted the apple but I might one of these
days as I now have two one year small trees, and I am curious to know
whether you can tell me more about this apple.
Thank you
Hélène, zone 3
