I would hope the sheriff takes this seriously. In most states harassing a police animal is a felony, operating on a closed road, causing an accident, and then leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, and whatever else the DA can add on, like maybe assault on a police officer. Unfortunately, without license plates this may be hard to prosecute. Since the bike was being used as a deadly weapon lethal force should have been authorized, save the costs of a trial. Hate to sound hard headed about this but city cops are used to shooting unlicensed operators who try to run them down on the street, maybe deadly force is needed to stop this kind of activity. The woman who is relaying the story and was riding with her friend is a posse member in that area. I hope they catch the perps and charge them heftily. This is another danger to keep in mind when we are on missions. Sad but true. |
