In our area tick and other insect borne diseases are so prevalent that the county is continuously spraying and owners are continuously washing and spraying animals. The trial Lyme production was effective, but had little demand so spending the money for full approval was dropped. We saw the same with West Nile until the infection and mortality rate exceeded 2% of the population at some barns. Nothing like seeing a horse die from a preventable disease to up the vaccination rate. SAR horses are valuable tools of the trade and deserve the most protection we can give. And remember you are out with unknown carriers when on a search, both horses from other barns and in different areas. Talk to your vet and check with the AAEP to determine what shots and when to give them. There is no available vaccine that is approved by the USDA for horses. On Aug 27, 2013, at 1:36 PM, "irvin lichtenstein" <ilichten1@verizon.net> wrote: |
