Hi all,
On Sunday night half the horse people in WA [AUST]
received at least one e-mail,3 for me regarding a an outbreak of strangles
,resulting in 6 dead horses and 30 confirmed cases in our northern suburbs. This
supposedly came from the Equestrian Federation of WA.
I cannot say I was suspicious at that stage but I
did wonder about 6 dead...must Hve been real old or foals.
A few friends and SAR colleagues rang me etc to see
if I could find out what was going on....I dont work so obviously have the
time!!!
The paper also had a 1/4 page article on monday
morning.
I contacted the Agricultural Dept ,strangles is not
a notifiable disease ,but they knew nothing about it and were
investigating.
By 1100 they got back to me and said there was no
outbreak of strangles.A couple of recent horse deaths in Wanneroo were not
related to strangles.EFA did not release a warning etc.
So it was a load of c--p.Our local feed store and
vet sold out of strangles vaccine on Monday,so people did take the matter very
seriously.
By Monday night the matter was clarified for
everyone...who has the internet.
The question is who and why, was it just some moron
having a bit of a joke ,or was it a case of chinese whispers, like the old army
joke
message to
HQ send reinforcement. We are going to
advance.
message received as send 50c. we
are going to a dance
cheers
