T'mi,
Thank you for the smart idea of the glow sticks, blinkers, and bells. Also, thanks to the person who suggested the reflective tape that adheres to the blankets. I will work with those so I have something effective by the time I head up north in October.
I appreciate the feedback!

Emily,
In additional to our issued blaze orange reflective
SAR vests, many of our MSAR team members place glow sticks, glow-rings or small
blinker lights on there horses at night. Another item that some team
members use is bear bells. When the horse are secure for the night the bells
works great because you can hear them when something has the horse upset and
you don’t hear them when all is well...
Can anyone give me some advice
regarding what you'd recommend to put on a horse to make it more visible in the
woods during a SAR deployment? I will be attending a MSAR weekend in upper Minnesota in October and
would like to have a reflective horse blanket or sheet that I can put on my
horse both for visual protection and just as an additional precaution in case
he gets loose. I've had to help people look f
or horses in unfamiliar areas
before, and it would have been a lot easier to see them if they had a bright
blanket on. This would be to put on him when he is in a temporary pen that I'll
set up. I can't seem to find anything in either glow or reflective mat
erial on the Internet.
