In New Mexico if we find a body, we back off, call it in, and preserve
the scene. That is, keep everyone away, which can be a lot harder than
you might suppose. We then wait hours for a public safety officer and
a medical examiner to arrive and do their forensic work. At this point
we may be dismissed, or asked to stand by to transport the body to the
trailhead.
