We have a few in the rural areas around
Houston.
I came across one while riding last
weekend.
The best course of action that I know of is to keep your
mount calm.
And move away at a 45 degree angle, don't turn your back on
it.
Be prepared to defend yourself and your
mount.
The probability of a cougar attacking is pretty slim as you
make some strange noises
as you ride and look like something they have never
seen.

states where there are cougars what the best action or reaction riders
should take if they come in proximity to a cougar. I work in a park in the
Midwest and there have been many recent and reliable sightings of this
cat. This is an extreme rarity in this area and I don't know how to inform
riders how to handle this situation. T. J.
