Subject: [MSAR] SAR mission management software

CASSIE is an old software for SAR mission management. I found some
old online mentions of it being a DOS program. For what it's worth,
there are a lot of software packages for this task. Just a few:
And there are a lot of variant sets of ICS forms. Don't knock paper;
everyone can use it, and it can be handed around, especially as the
scope of a mission expands. In the initial period, management may be
just one person wearing all hats; if the mission continues it usually
also grows and management staff grows too. If you have all info on a
computer, that computer can become a major bottleneck in your ability
to get information to people who need it. Also, what do you do at the
end of your operational period? Say your task is logistics section
chief; would you hand over your computer to the person who relieves
you? Would the person who relieves you be able to operate it at least
as well as you do? If not, then in my opinion you should consider
working on paper.
Anyway, the trick isn't managing forms, on paper or on the computer;
the trick is knowing what to put on those forms, and how to use them
to conduct the mission.
