Karen, the only thing I know of is what
is used in the NFL. What players wear looks pretty cumbersome and is
likely used to prevent necks from snapping backwards. It is a good
idea and I don't know how useful it would be if a rider came off and their
head was forward. The neck guards would be at most athletic supply
places. Let me know what you think and if these just take getting used
to. I do not know if they limit visibility for SAR
work. Dana -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

Well, Dana, that is my point exactly, there is no neck protection that is
as UNCUMBERSOME as the brim of a cowboy hat and especially while
riding.. Having been there and done that with the falls and having my
neck saved I'm sticking to the brim. It is what works for me and along
with the learned way to roll with a fall. If this seems unreasonable to
some, I find it more unsafe to be put in use a peice of equipment that does not
suit the individual in his or her needs. I personally would rather have
some neck protection rather than NONE.
What anyone else rides in is up to THEM and their personal
need. I, for one am not going to let any peice of
equipment lull me into any false sense of security no matter what the RATINGS
are by any experts or otherwise. Seems the more equipment we have that is
supposedly to keep us safe, some of us will always take more risks But then, far
be it from me to also judge any ones natural riding ability. Some of us
are well schooled and well skilled and others have the skills of a
tightrope walker. So let the cowboys ride. Their hat has
been around for eons. And if you are a modern day rider adn select a
helmet for your own, so be it.
If I may may comment, it seems like drivers on the road seem to act
more like idiots, because they know they have airbags and the cars are built
safer incase of an accident, but that does not leave them any excuse to drive
like a crazy loon. That is unexceptable in any rate and as noted in the
increase of road rage incidents. However, seems to me, people have just
simply have taken leave of common senses and to hell with the other guy.
But then that is driving... this is after all MSAR.
Well, guys, this has again been a rousing topic. I am off to my
retirement.
May you all ride a safe and sound horse!
AND MAY GOD BLESS!
