We're facing a lot of the same issues are you Irv. Compounded by
difficult access and dirt roads! We have very few large horse operations
and they are pretty self-sufficient anyways. In fact they are usually
volunteering their extra trailers for our use. Mostly we have individual
owners with one or more animals. I would really like to 'map' the
backyard owners in our small valley. The biggest difficulty we have is
in collecting all horses/livestock in one area at the same time. At this
point we rely on phone calls into the SO. They are added to a list and
then a team has to be assigned to them. I keep thinking that it might
very well save time if we knew ahead of time how many animals (without
transportation) were in each area. Then we could send teams in to get
specified numbers of animals in a mandatory evacuation situation. Our
area is also complicated because of the cross-over about WHO really has
authority to remove those animals. If we had them identified ahead of
time we could also work on getting releases signed that would give one
of several organizations the right to transport to safety.
I have a couple of documents made up for recording animal evac info-
both for field teams and command post. If anyone wants to see them I
would be happy to send them. I would appreciate comments on improving
them and I would like to see any that other teams have in existence. The
idea with these forms is to eventually get some individual sheets made
up into triplicate pads. The paper trail would be much quicker then!
