Happy New Year to you and your family
Thot you might id w/this daffynition:
Sleeping Sickness: A disease peculiar to mare owners while waiting for
their mares to foal. Caused by nights of lost sleep, symptoms include
irritability, red, baggy eyes & a zombie-like waking state. Can last several
weeks.
I had very extensive surgery on my shoulder so I haven't been responding to
call outs for several months. I am recovering well and am ready to start
responding. Look forward to seeing you at the next SAREX. Bonnie

Folks watching the Rose Parade on TV on New Year's Day may see the Tulare
County Sheriff's Posse - complete with our Sheriff - riding in the parade.
Many of the riders participating are also part of the Posse's Mounted SAR
team.
I'm a member of the Posse, but I won't be riding. We have pregnant mares due
starting in January. One mare looks close to foaling, and I'm already on
foal watch with fingers and toes crossed that we don't have any newborn
foals until *after* midnight New Year's Eve so they are officially born in
2006!
Happy New Year to all!

LOL! That "daffynition" is pretty accurate. But for a breeder that
zombie-like condition might go on for months - not weeks - until all the
broodmares have foaled. Our last mare is due in April. ;-/
Anyone interested is welcome to "visit" my barn via camera and join me on
Foal Watch 2006. Most evenings I'll also be on the CEOates Chat. I'll be
firing up the foaling stall cameras and transmitting live streaming video
from my barn starting New Years. Time it right, and you can see where future
MSAR horses come from. ;) (Yes, we've used some of our home bred foals for
MSAR in the backcountry.)
