Has anyone tried target training horses for scent? Let me
explain how it is done. First an animal is taught to target an
object--can be a cone, stick, tip of a whip, pool bumper on a stick,
etc. This gets the animal thinking and offering behavior. Next the
scent source is targeted. The horse in this case would be reinforced for
touching the scent source. We've had great success with our cadaver dogs
using this training. Several of us are going to use this for
training our horses to recognize cadaver scent. We will video tape it
and demonstrate it at the seminar in Houston in June...Sar
