Team size is / should be influenced by the type of search and location. For
example, sending 2 riders out together isn't a problem if you're fairly
close to some back-up. In the backcountry I prefer at least 3, preferably 4,
because the riders would be more remote. There are things that 2 people
can't accomplish that 3 or 4 people could. One advantage of a 4 rider team
is there is potential to split that team while they are in the field -
perhaps several hours away from base - yet they'd still be close enough to
ride to the assistance of the other team.
