Hi, Lisa -
Welcome! Is the MSAR
team already authorized by the county Sheriff, and you have all of your ducks in
a row as a non-profit organization, etc.?
If you're already past that point, I'll just
mention that you'll want written standards to identify minimum training and
equipment. The fundamentals are that mounted SAR personnel should be trained as
ground SAR ... then add requirements specific to mounted in SAR. I'd also
encourage your riders to attend SAR conferences - with/without horses - for
ongoing SAR education.
It looks like Ian is nearby (also in CO) and he can
provide good guidance on SAR / MSAR, complete with hosting some MSAR training.
And if you look through the MSAR-Riders discussion archives you'll find lots of
good information on getting an MSAR team started.
