New Mexico SAR volunteers in the Albuquerque area are being
called out today to search for shuttle debris. Los Alamos
National Laboratory reported evidence indicating Columbia
began to explode over eastern New Mexico [1], but to date no
debris has been found west of Fort Worth, Texas [2]. NM SAR
resources are being called out to search an area east of
Albuquerque, where radar evidence and visual reports indicate
debris may have fallen [3]. See [4] for an annotated map of
Columbia's ground track on its final approach.
