That story sounds like a corruption of the 'silver mine' story which
apparently has some basis in truth. As the much touted and lamented Aletsch
Glacier receded it exposed the shafts of an ancient silver mine where the
mining
tools had been stacked against the miners returning the next spring to
continue unabated. But the glacier never receded that far for several
thousand
years until recently.
