But do you or do you not feel that the Office itself is due respect,
regardless of the person holding the office? I feel that is does.
There are two different meaning of 'respect'; one is deference to someone
because they have certain rights or privileges, and the other is holding
someone in esteem because of personal qualities or abilities. You can show
respect for someone's position without respecting the person.
On this list we often resort to name calling when we refer to our
Presidents. I don't consider that deference. IMO, sometimes, as in the
case with the POTUS, I believe deference should override.
I agree, and to my recollection, you personally have not been too
offensive, if at all-I can't think of a time when you namecalled or
labeled, but in the past, some on the list have been disrespectful, in
all of it's meanings, on the list, both to listmembers and to the
titles, myself included. Not a day goes by that I don't think of >the 'labeling' incident. I just think that if we all agreed to try to >be more respectful, we would be able to discuss more on this >list without creating WWIII.
