The 'move' argument is not helpful, at all. Why should ruralites be
penalized so that metro residents can be subsidized?
That is a whiner mentality. Americans are still free in that we have
the right to choose our lifestyle. That includes the right to live
wherever we like. Those who choose cities subject themselves to higher
taxes and socialism. I know few ruralites who feel "penalized." The
exception is those who have foolishly bought into "bigger is better"
and happen to live in the country, often because of family history.
The states with large cities are not good states for homesteaders.
Most notably, New York and California ruralites pay taxes that support
big city programs. Taxes go with the territory.
We ruralites are mostly happy to have the freedom that comes with not
being involved with being "helped" by government programs. The
abhorrence of revenooers is strong in my favorite part of the world.
My friends are mostly of modest means and are happy. They rightly see
that "help" from the outside world brings loss of freedom. We
predictably vote against all proposals that we think will lead to
higher taxes, which is almost everything.
Where one lives is not luck, it is the result of choice. Choose well.
And quit bitching. Take charge of your life.
