In a lot of ways a team is always better. If I were to start out with a
blank slate, I'd keep my eye out for two much smaller horses as much as I
would
this great giant that I have.
This one 2000 lb horse I have can pull the stone boat, hay rake, mower
(rarely used), plow, and move quite a large log. So I don't really need any
more
power than that.
The power to the load is applied from a team much more evenly and smoothly
than from a single horse. There is some natrual spelling off for a second or
two so a team can work a little longer before blowing.
People have left their Belgians here for Herself to train and when you have
two such horses in a team ... lot's of fun ... but as you say, it's an
overkill.
