Bev,That's interesting. Is it related to the throat singing of the Tuvans, do you know? I hosted a Tuvan group, Huun-Huur-Tu, once when they came here to perform, what a great time we had. And although I know a Saami couple, they've never mentioned song or singing, but since what we've usually done together is winter camping/snowshoeing, that's not surprising, I guess. Probably too far away to be related, though, now that I mull over the distance between Tuva and basically the west coast....
My good friend in N.D. just did a wonderful article on the Saami about a sort
of singing that they do. It's sacred and a dying art, you might know what I'm
talking about, I can't remember what it's called. But I'll ask her to send it
to me again if you're interested in reading it.
