Still is. That's what we use here. Depending on the ice house
(earthbermed best), and the temperature of the ice when it is packed,
can still have ice in early Sept some years....
Curiosity item: they used to cut ice from the Androscoggin and
Penobscot Rivers here, pack it in sawdust, and send it by ship to the
Caribbean in years gone by....big trade item for many years.
