This country used to be just to the right of center, which gave the
Republican party an advantage. Twenty, thirty years ago, the Democrats
were mid left of center, and I think that is why we have seen more
Republican presidents than Democrats over that time period. However,
today, the Republicans have gone to the radical right, and the Democrats
have gone to the radical left, and the only ones in the middle are those
who have failed to keep up with the times...Greens lean left,
Libertarians lean right, an Independent could be anywhere. They aren't
in the middle either. We've just become so polarized that it is no
wonder we don't see common ground anymore.
