I think that sentiment is normal. I remember when Jimmy Carter ran for President. Half the state wanted to hide. I think Arkansas felt the same way about Clinton. I KNOW a lot of Texans don't want to claim Bush.To some extent Bush makes a deal of being Texan but I don't remember Carter or Clinton making a big deal of their locations (I do remember both making big of their personal background/upbringing) and flashing their regional idiosyncrasies. Even Bush hasn't done a whole lot of it, or at any rate I haven't seen much of it. I do remember him making some comment about Maine in the summer when he was running, which netted him a quickly-publicized laundry list of his OUI arrests and various other offenses in the state. And I have heard a bit of Texas blather but nothing to hold a candle to the Palin splash.
